Event Details

This webinar is a follow-on to CESA’s ESTAP webinars on energy storage projects and implementation at municipal utilities.

The Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), a CESA member, is focused on deep carbon reduction via two key strategies: increasing renewable energy and strategic electrification. Significant incentives are available to developers, builders, and homeowners who are investing in all-electric homes and integrated technologies like energy storage. SMUD encourages building electrification through its All-Electric Smart Homes program, which can use on-site or off-site renewable energy for heating & cooling, hot water, cooking, and transportation. Seven all-electric smart homes communities are currently under development.

In addition to its Smart Homes program, SMUD offers a storage program that provides incentives for homeowners that are interested in sharing the resource with the utility. When coupled with solar, the storage system can store the excess generation and allow the customer to dispatch the battery during peak load hours when electricity is more expensive. By shifting battery dispatch to peak periods, a homeowner not only reduces their carbon emissions, but also reduces demand on the electric grid and their electric bill. Additional value can be passed onto the customer when the battery is dispatched to provide grid support.

Please join us on this one-hour webinar with Rachel Huang, SMUD’s Director of Energy Strategy, Research & Development.

***** This webinar is a presentation of the Energy Storage Technology Advancement Partnership (ESTAP). ESTAP is a federal-state funding and information sharing project that aims to accelerate the deployment of electrical energy storage technologies in the U.S. ESTAP is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Electricity, managed by Sandia National National Laboratories, and administered by the Clean Energy States Alliance (CESA).
