Event Details

Join the Reimagine LIPA campaign and the Long Island Progressive Coalition for a presentation and discussion on ” Who Owns the Electric Grid on Long Island” at Tiny Raccoon Books located at 277 Railroad Ave, Sayville NY 11787, on Wednesday, June 26th at 7 pm.
The current electricity system on Long Island is unaccountable, unsustainable, unreliable and polluting, and the bills keep going up. But we can do something about it!
Over the last 3 years the Reimagine LIPA campaign has been advocating for changes to make our system more affordable, accountable, equitable, and greener. Please come to this presentation and discussion to hear more about how the current systems works–and does not work! — and the proposal that more than 100 groups have signed to transform the system.
The Reimagine LIPA campaign formed in the Fall of 2020 after Tropical Storm Isaias to urge the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) to end its public-private partnership model with PSEG, and private utilities in general, in order to create a locally and democratically controlled and operated utility. The Future of the Long Island Power Authority Act of 2022, which we helped pass, established a LIPA Legislative Commission to develop the roadmap to get there.
