17oct8:30 am9:30 amMorning Coffee Webinar | Lessons From Beacon: How One Community Organized to Decarbonize Their Buildings

Event Details

The City of Beacon has been at the forefront of local climate action. Earlier this year, Beacon passed a local version of New York’s Electric Buildings Act, which effectively bans gas hook ups in new construction and major renovations, after a successful organizing campaign from a local grassroots group, Beacon Climate Action Now (BCAN).

Join us this Morning Coffee webinar to learn how community organizing can inspire local governments to take action, with examples from one forward-looking municipality in the Hudson Valley. BCAN members will share their story with tips on how to organize and how to leverage local legislation to move New York forward. You’ll also hear how one commercial building owner decided to take steps to decarbonize his studio building across the river in Newburgh.

Moderator:
– Vanessa Bertozzi, Partners for Climate Action Hudson Valley

Speakers:
– Veekas Ashoka, Co-founder, BCAN
– Thomas Wright, Co-founder and Co-president, Atlas Industries; Chair of the Beacon Greenway Committee; and Member of the Beacon Conservation Advisory Committee and BCAN
