Event Details

Residential Retrofits for Energy Equity (R2E2) is teaming up with the Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR program for this fourth workshop in a series on equitable deployment of home energy upgrades.
In addition to reducing energy use and cutting utility bills, home energy upgrades can reduce pollution and improve the health of residents. At the workshop, participants will hear from the Green & Healthy Homes Initiative as well as health and energy practitioners in the field. The workshop will begin with an introduction to the link between housing and health and then provide an overview of healthy housing principles. We’ll hear about how addressing health and safety hazards increases the reach and equitable impact of energy upgrade programs, as well as how the programs impact occupants’ health.
We’ll explore case studies from around the country for best practices to achieve health and energy goals. The workshop will also outline how to effectively partner with health-sector stakeholders, identify health funding sources, and review potential solutions to overcome barriers to implementing healthy housing upgrades. The workshop will be broken into two main sections:
  • 1–3 p.m. ET/Presentation and Q&A with experts from featured case studies: During the first part of the workshop, we will introduce the connection between the built environment and health, social determinants of health, incorporating health into retrofit programs, and principles of healthy housing. Speakers will discuss weatherization deferrals, health funding, metrics, and innovations and opportunities.
  • 3–4 p.m. ET/Interactive small group time: The second part of the workshop will be an interactive session facilitated by guest presenters, where participants will be placed into smaller groups to dig deeper into specific case studies and ask questions directly. This will also be an opportunity for attendees to share their experiences and network with other workshop attendees.
You can learn more about this workshop series at the EPA’s ENERGY STAR Resource Center for Equitable Home Upgrade Implementation.
