Event Details

On April 11 at 7pm ET, join us for an uplifting lecture by Cary Institute senior research fellow Peter Groffman, who will share inspiring examples of ecological success stories, where science has led to effective solutions and a cleaner environment for all.

Discover how ecosystem science has led to policy and management action that has curbed acid rain, reduced nutrient pollution to freshwaters, and conserved endangered species. Groffman will explore the factors contributing to these success stories, why teamwork is essential, and what we can learn from the past to address today’s challenges.

Groffman is a senior research fellow at Cary Institute, the 2025 president-elect of the Ecological Society of America, and a professor at the City University of New York (CUNY) Advanced Science Research Center at the Graduate Center and the Department of Earth and Environmental Science at Brooklyn College. He studies urban ecology and how climate change alters microbial processes that support plant growth and air and water quality.

Free and open to all, this hybrid event will feature time for Q&A. Participants are encouraged to submit questions in advance during registration, so they can be woven into the presentation.
