A 2022 report from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory found there are massive institutional and structural barriers that are preventing hundreds of gigawatts of clean energy from coming online due to interconnection issues to the transmission grid. And yet, in New York State, hundreds miles of transmission lines are being upgraded or built to boost reliability, carry more clean power from upstate to downstate so that New York can hit its goals of 100% zero-emission electricity across the state by 2040. New York has launched the most dramatic rebuild of its transmission system in four decades and is cutting through reams of red tape to get it done, engaging with communities all across the state at every stage.
Join Canary Media along with the Gridwise Alliance, New York ISO, New York Power Authority and a Northern New York dairy farmer for a discussion on how the state’s unified approach is accelerating transmission system investments at a time when it is gridlocked in many other regions of the U.S., and how other system operators and states can emulate New York’s aggressive approach to modernizing its transmission network in a timely way that is fair and equitable.
