Karen and John heated this old farmhouse with wood for 36 years. After John passed away, Karen added a propane furnace for back up along with closing down the house to a couple rooms in the winter. Air sealing, insulation, a geothermal heat pump, and solar panels have brought her home from the 19th century into the 21st, dramatically increasing her comfort and personal safety while remaining true to her commitment to environmental protection.
