Event Details

What is the true cost of hyper-scale AI to Our Climate, Our Communities, and Our Democracy?

Join MediaJustice, The Solutions Project, and the Tishman Environment & Design Center at The New School on Monday, September 21, 6–8 PM ET for a critical conversation about the rapid expansion of AI and the impacts it is already having on our communities.

They’ll bring together community leaders, climate advocates, and tech critics to ask:
→ How can philanthropy and investors support offensive organizing to disrupt “tech determinism” and advance more vibrant and sustainable futures?
→ What strategies can help communities in New York, Alabama, Michigan, and across the country remain in the decision-making seat as they confront the false promise of unchecked AI development at all costs?
→ As Big Tech rapidly expands generative AI, what impact is it having on social infrastructure, the working class, our climate, and the survival of democracy?

Featuring Paris Marx, host of Tech Won’t Save Us and author of Hyperscale: The Ambition and Excess of Big Tech’s Data Empires, alongside Andrea Pierce (Michigan Environmental Justice Coalition), Jilisa Milton (GASP), Ryan Madden (NY Renews), Steven Renderos (MediaJustice), and Clare Winterton (The Solutions Project).
