Capital Region Siting Forum

The New York League of Conservation Voters Education Fund (NYLCVEF), a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating, engaging, and empowering New Yorkers to be effective environmental advocates, is excited to announce that it will be hosting a roundtable meeting focused on the challenges and opportunities to siting renewable energy in the Capital Region of New York.

Our state has the potential to be a national leader on transitioning to clean energy. Governor Cuomo recently announced a Green New Deal for NYS and updated the Clean Energy Standard, setting an ambitious goal of 100% clean power by 2040. To achieve these goals, New York must drastically increase its renewable energy development. While some progress has been made, getting largescale solar and wind projects sited has been slow and contentious.

Our Capital Region forum will look at best practices for early engagement between solar developers and community representatives. It will also focus on projects that are subject to Article 10 and consider ways to streamline the approval process. Governor Cuomo’s ambitious clean energy goals for New York require a rapid and comprehensive transition to renewable energy generation statewide, one that must include collaboration between all stakeholders, including environmental groups, renewable energy companies, state and municipal leaders, and more. Our forum will bring together these players to identify specific recommendations for achieving our clean energy goals.
