Energy Efficiency

Energy efficiency is the cheapest, easiest and fastest way to address climate change while also creating good local jobs, reducing other harmful pollution, and increasing the resiliency of our electric grid. It will also be a critical component to meeting New York State’s CLCPA mandates to reducing greenhouse gas emissions 40% percent by 2030 and more than 85% percent by 2050.

NYCP worked with a coalition of advocates for a new energy efficiency standard and delivered 10K petitions in April 2018. On April 20th, Gov. Cuomo announced utilities must now scale up annual electric savings by over 3% by 2025, the most ambitious energy efficiency standard in the country. In the meantime, New Yorkers for Clean Power is working on many other fronts to improve energy efficiency by

  • Encouraging all New Yorkers to sign up for a home energy audit that will evaluate where their homes or businesses are losing energy and what can be done to make them more efficient. Home energy audits are FREE (or relatively low cost with help from state incentive programs) for most New York State residents. You can find information about getting a home energy audit here
  • Educating New Yorkers about simple steps at home to limit energy usage (such as sealing air leaks, installing insulation and adjusting the thermostat)
  • Email us at info@nyforcleanpower.org to find a time to review energy efficiency and clean energy updates that you can make to save money and energy!

Here we are with allies delivering over 8000 petitions to Governor Cuomo urging a strong energy efficiency target on April 10th, 2018.
